My son has been in the Air Force for two years. When they are in basic training they should get nothing from home but letters in plain white envelopes and maybe pictures depending on the branch. Care packages would get them in trouble. After basic, is tech school, and then again it depends on the branch. My son was able to get things from home, but remember they won't be there long, so anything has to be packed to the next place or home. Again each branch is different, my son was able to have care packages, but I had a cousin in the army and their tech school was very strict on what they received from home. My advice is to wait until they get their orders to be stationed at a long term location, and then send things like quilts. My son has two of his quilts from home.
