I am not sure but someone had a thread with stitching from the back while holding it in your palm. Not sure if that is the same but the stitching thread will not show. I used the plastic hexes that have more of a thickness to them so I am able to catch more of the back of the seam so my stitches don't normally show that much.
I am using card stock for my hexies which also gives me a little more thickness and I too am able to stitch them together with a whip stitch and my stitching isn't showing on the front. When I first started sewing them together, some of my stitches were showing on the front but 1200 hexies later, I have gotten much better and faster at sewing them together and my stitches are no longer showing.
Thanks for the link; it is an interesting concept and just goes to show you there are many different ways to get from Point A to Point B!!
