I have made a Grandmother's Flower Garden. I did have the centers all the same fabric. The next rounds (3) I had each row blend with the next row and then added a fabric "Confetti" which is light cream with specks of all different colors. Then a pathway of green with ladybugs. I finished with hexies of sky fabric then a picket fence and a gate welcoming you to my Flower Garden, The picket fence is in the grass. The only machine stitching was when I appliqued the fence and when sewing a border of sky fabric to stabilize the seams of the hexies that had to be cut off to make a straight edge.
