It depends on whether you are going to do hand quilting or not. Many people machine quilt in which case you wouldn't need something like this. I somehow ended up with two of the oval floor stands. I gave one of them to a friend and the other one is hanging up from the rafters in the garage. I don't do much hand quilting anymore. When I did use it I found I had to put my feet on the cross piece on the floor to hold it steady enough.
