I too always piece my borders - I will consider whether the seam will blend better if it is done straight or on the diagonal, which depends on the pattern on the fabric (and 9 times out of 10 straight is best or just as good as diagonal, so why waste fabric).
So I say use what you have prepped already and plan something fabulous for your bonus fabric!
