I am someone who enjoys squaring blocks up too so I stay away from anything 3D. The only thing I can think of is to square it up using the lines on your mat. CHECK FIRST to make sure they are accurate and that you block does NOT move. I made this quilt which the dog was made from artificial fur and I took things very slowly when I trimmed the center block.
