If it is behind the foot, how does it not fall out as soon as you sew?
Think about a sled on a snowy day. As it slides along, it hits a log that is lying across its path. At this point the sled (presser foot) is lifted and the cotton swab's shaft is placed towards the rear of sled perpendicular to its path. Sled is lowered. The front end of the sled is across the high point of the log while the rear is held up by the core of the swab. The sled is level! Forward motion continues. As soon as the sled no longer needs the support at the rear, it is removed!

I hope this helps. Having trouble with pics lately.
