Thanks for your reply, QuiltMom2. I found this quilt in a cabin on the pioneer farmstead of Zebulon Vance located near Weaverville, North Carolina. Since this place is a museum I could not touch the quilt to examine it. It was hand quilted and the fabric looks old. I think it is truly a very old quilt. This farmstead was reconstructed around some of the remaining parts of buildings and the furnishings are not original to the Vance family, but are items that evoke the years the Vance family living there, 1795-1840. Perhaps the curator, or whoever supervised the collection for the place, made sure everything in the cabin was authentic to the period. I can only speculate; regardless, I loved the quilt when I saw it!!
