I too had this problem, my machine even started sewing one day when I was in the other room pressing.

I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT TO CONSUMER SAFETY COUNCIL. I was not given much attention as there were not other reports of this happening. I brought it to the attention of the company and the retailer where I bought mine. All indicated they had never heard of this problem before. Mine is a Kenmore, but is made by Janome.

I think everyone should be reporting this as a safety concern. Fingers and even stray kitty or puppy parts could be injured by this unpredictable sewing.

Cleaning the foot pedal did correct the problem, however, something like this should NOT be happening at all. I've had lots of machines with foot pedals and never had this issue, so surely there is some design change that needs to be made to make these machines safe.
