Check at your local sign shop. Ask if they have any scrap plastic, usually inexpensive, sometimes free! You can also use a piece of foam core, but put it in a sleeve so you can replace it if needed. Works well & light weight.
the corrugated plastic that they use for election type signs works well. I get it from my local sign shop. Just asked for their scraps. I cut it with an old rotary cutter. It is light weight, but sturdy.
