Yes I always have the felt pad on the spindle. You made me think about something, though---I never use a spool cap. Wonder if things go differently with a cap on top of the thread?
I have machines with a vertical spindle and they have a felt pad but no cap. My machine with the horizontal spindle has a spool cap and without it the spool of thread wouldn't stay on the spindle. Do machines with vertical spindles come with spool caps?
