My DH is the leader of a local, very active, woodworking club. Unfortunately, it is in Ohio. He frequently gets calls from people looking for a woodworker to build something. So perhaps a search for woodworking clubs in your area would yield some results.
Another idea might be Angie's List, although you have to pay something to join.
