What I have done for my 5 SILs when their father died was to collect his handkerchiefs and add their initials and lace. The fancy stitches on my sewing machine came in handy for this. I used variegated threads to add color. Each now has a hanky that belonged to their father. My sisters also got a fancy hanky when my dad passed away. If her mom had hankies you could make a crazy quilt stitch using the hankies and make a small wall hanging; or just frame them for her.
