Where is this button???? I have a 8900 also. My default setting is 2.40?
Was this a memory setting you created for 1/4 inch seam? Is it a 1/4" foot? Did this foot come with the machine or did you purchase it separately?

I have that machine as well and don't have problems with accuracy. The button also positions the needle to align with the 1/4" foot along with setting the stitch length. I admit however when I use another machine which has no preset options I have the stitch set larger/longer. I've never had seams fall apart because of the stitch length I've used.
