qltgrose, I mixed my light background batiks also so, I don't know how much I used in the total quilt. Maybe someone who used the same fabric knows how much they have used total. In a typical king size, I buy 9 yards for the back, this has lots more seams. All I know is I kept adding fabrics to it so I was certain I wouldn't run out. Remember with paper piecing, you have much more waste that with a traditional block. You will be cutting rectangles and then sewing triangles for the stars which leaves waste.
