Not all of us... Many of us are very conservation minded. It hurts to hear people judge all of us this way. There is a growing movement of people here who are very much aware of social issues.

Americans have such a wasteful mentality that it hurts anymore when I hear that you just "throw it away". If you live somewhere else for a while (as in a poor country) where there isn't quite as much plenty, you become much more aware of this waste and excess.
