The bright white blocks do tend to distract from the other blocks. I like the idea suggested that you put in a sashing between the blocks, just to give the eyes a resting place. I would finish it and make it into a tree skirt, they don't have to be round. Jenny Doan on MSQC has a tree skirt tutorial, it might give you an idea on how to finish your quilt into a tree skirt, and once you start putting presents under the tree, the quilt will "seem to disappear".
