I've used them on sewing projects, but never on a quilt. When you marry two different types of fabrics together, they will not stay together as nicely as if you use the same type throughout.
The blankets with the satin binding (you can find it at Joann) that I've made tended to have issues the more they were loved & washed with stitches coming loose or pulling on the satin fabric until it started to fray. The instructions I used called for attaching it with a machine zig-zag stitch.
