When I am binding a circular project, I usually run a couple of "basting" lines around the item, one at the 5/8" seam line and another about 1/4 inch inside the seam line. The basting lines make it easier to ease the bias binding around the project, without those awful tucks. As long as the basting is loose, it is very easy to remove after you've finished the binding.
