Another tip - you can also use an emery board to pick up stray threads.

I keep a mini lint roller for that purpose as well. I don't roll it, I just press it down along the threads and lift it back up.
I love the "eraser" head on this tool but I have to admit it's not my favorite seam ripper. I like either very small, fine seam ripper points, or my real favorite is the scalpel style. But when I go to a class, I usually only bother to bring this one. It's not my favorite but it works well enough. At home I pretty much only use the eraser part of it (but I do use that part enough that I don't feel it was a wasted purchase.)
