I use Hobbs 80/20 as batting. Once it is washed it gets that crinkled look, but I have had no problems using a high steam iron to get it to play nice with glasses. My grandmother irons hers ( the one I made last year ) before she puts it on the table, and we managed to keep it spill free through Thanksgiving AND Christmas. She does NOT put plastic over it either. I make them darker and scrappier for just that reason, it helps hide any possible spills alot better than lighter colors !
