I will use Warm and Natural or all cotton batting but never use polyester. If it gets wet you will get burned. Pieces from mattress pads, towels, etc. work well too if you don't want to use insulbrite.
Any potholder can scald you if it gets wet. And if it also gets hot enough to make steam. Been there, done that.
