I personally use Sharon Schambers basting method for any quilt I'm doing myself. It takes a bit of time but well worth the effort..AND I can actually fold the quilt up and let it be for quite some time with no issues. There are 2 videos, I've included the first and the second should be listed at the site. With this method NOTHING shifts. I hate the pinning and they never seem to really do a good job of keeping things in place. I use my dining room table for basting. BUT I have a big sheet of heavy plastic over it to protect the surface. I got my boards pre-painted at Home Depot. I've basted up to queen size. I've never done a king size on my domestic machine. Try it, you might find it's the best method out there. I tried the basting spray and was never quite happy. But then I've been quilting a very long time.
