Lynnie: you can make your own ruler if you have some gridded quilting template plastic. Just trace it out and trim your plastic to the size you need.
Or... you can trace a 2 1/2 " on some thin cardboard. Draw a line across the middle of it...point to point. Use the cardboard by placing the mid-point line on the seam of your fabric and cut around that...be very careful to not trim your templates so you don't lose any of your 2 1/2".
