My mother-in-law recommended doing something similar several years ago. She suggested always cutting strips and squares in common sizes whenever I'm cutting for another project. It's a simple matter to cut a few extra strips and then they're ready when you need them. I also like to go down to my sewing room and cut strips and common squares when I'm not working on a project. I find that pulling out the fabric helps to inspire and when I have a project in mind, I'm impatient with cutting. So this is a great time to sort through scraps and small pieces and prepare for future scrappy projects. I don't have any larger squares in my cut scraps (I think that about 6" is the biggest).
