That's funny you said that b/c i was playing around with the block and was thinking the same thing. Perhaps a two color quilt might work better for exactly the reason you stated.

The example with the jelly rolls you'd have the same fabrics throughout the quilt. Scrappy but still co-ordinated I guess. I can imagine for a swap using all black and white prints with a white or red and white prints with white as an example, then the whole quilt would have something in common even though it might have 90 different "black and white" prints. Does that make sense? Just a thought.....I'm still trying to visualize.
