I thought what you described was normal.
My hubby will notice a new fabric and ask when I got it. I tell him I've had it for awhile now and he just smiles at me because he knows I'm an addict. If I quilted every day for the rest of my life I'd never get to everything I want to make. With that said I did finish a quilt I'd had pieced for about a year and it felt really good when I put in that last stitch.
