Is that different from a regular iron?
two home fixes I've heard, sprinkles salt on foil and iron, or iron waxed paper (grease proof in the UK)
Neither ever cleaned my iron.

On the notions wall at sewing stores is Dritz iron cleaner.
Really it is a soft wax, and smells good when you iron it
I take a leftover bit of cotton batting about the size of a kleenex, fold it into a 4 part accordion fold
run a line (like toothpaste) of the Dritz iron clean on it and then iron back and forth with a hot iron.
Works like a dream.
