Well, I am not using scraps but hand piecing 1930's reproduction fabrics into Grandmother's flower garden with plastic foundations pieces knowns as "quilt patis" - they are wonderful! The quilt patis come in different sizes and give you the most perfect hexagon - just google "quilt patis" to check it out. I've been doing my project since 2009 and it is quite good therapy for me.
