When first husband and I bought home after we married, it came furnished partially. There was a dish with a German stamp/thumbprint on the bottom. It had gold trimmed scalloped edges. I was offered $75.00 back then for it. Nope, I wanted to keep it and I did for about 15 years when I was cleaning a curio cabinet and dropped it. Do I regret not selling it?, nope. I admired it too much and loved looking at it. That house also had an old Kent radio in a beautiful cabinet. It still had the coils and could get the local radio station on it. I absolutely loved it's curves and beautiful oak carvings. It sat in a corner. I came home one day and the first thing I noticed was when walking in the back door some would at the bottom of the steps. It was pieces of my radio. I picked up one of the legs because I was "really" going to get some more use out of it. My "husband" a.k.a. ex was taking it apart so a buddy of his could use it for his fireplace. They cut up this beautiful piece of furniture with a small chain saw in the house. If I couldn't have my radio, my a.k.a. ex was not going to have his new TV. I took what large piece was left of the radio and through it into the TV. Ex's friend ran out of the house got into his truck and took off. Everyone thought I was nuts, I just told them I was having a revenge moment. He was lucky I didn't kill him. He learned after that never to do anything without asking but it was too late. I had enough. My current DH appreciates anything vintage.
