Default Question about crocheting

I suppose I'm like the student who told me he couldn't look up the word in the dictionary because he didn't know how to spell it. I've been looking for a crocheting technique that uses a long crochet hook where a whole row of stitches are held onto the hook to be completed all at one time. If I recall the hook has a flat cap on the opposite end of the hook....and the name of the technique begin with a "t." Anyone familiar with this technique? Thanks in advance for any response. Gail
