Wow queen size is pretty big for a 3 year old. A lot of the flannels do pill, that is the reason I stopped making the rag quilts.
I recently made two rag quilts that consisted of a lot of 100 percent cotton and very little flannel. I must have gotten a bazillion little 1/2 inch strings all over them, even though I changed the lint trap frequently. The little strings come from where the fabric is clipped and very very hard to remove and stop from recurring.
