Default I Spy w HST

I want to share lesson or approach learned in the process of piecing this fun quilt.

The squares are cut 4.5 inches
And each nine patch has 3 HST always on diagonal.
- clearly plan combination of light and med to dark HST(s)

Line up your nine patch blocks the same way keeping in mind the following guide lines

So the entire quilt is composed of the single nine patch.

It is only when you lay out the quilt that you turn some nine patch blocks upside down for diagonal HST to point towards left or towards right angle but it's an easy transition; address it only when u lay out the entire quilt. At that time (before piecing) fix any directional 4.5" squares.

Tip to get right shading
1) line up the nine patch block s w your choice of the light or dark side of the HST pointing uniformly towards the center.
2) place contrast med to dark 4.5" squares against the light side of the HST s and likewise place contrast lighter shade 4.5" squares against the dark side of the HST s

I suggest you take a pic if your layout before piecing.

Note: I found this tip allowed me to get a good handle to layout this quilt.
Purchased an inexpensive plastic table cloth w reverse felt like material; cut it to 12" squares to lay out the individual nine patch blocks. By doing so I could easily move them around to play w the lay out and/or move the 4.5" squares to my liking. Once I was pleased (I took a pic to use as a guide) and numbered each nine patch w a sticky pinned in the center but the best part was I was able to stack them in order one over another and quickly piece them.

Hope these tips help

Happy quilting
Anna
