There was a posting on Quilting Board a few months ago about how someone solved this problem by adding another piece so there was only four seams to join. It was a great tip but I can't find the posting Perhaps someone else is better at searching than I am. That tip would solve this problem.

The tip was where you have eight pieces coming together take two of the pieces and sew a small piece of coordinating fabric over the point and then cut the point away underneath. Do this for the remaining pieces. You now only have half as many points to match. I feel I'm not doing a very good job at describing it. She provided pictures to illustrate it. I hope someone else can help find this link because it was a super tip.
