Armchair Tour of Cuba-Photos From My Recent Trip to Cuba
Several of you asked me to share some of the photos I took on my trip to Cuba a few months ago, so here they are. It was like taking a time capsule back in time to pre-1950 in many ways. The people were fabulous and they loved to talk to Americans, they spoke a little English and I speak some Spanish. But life is hard there, the average Cuban makes less than $20 per MONTH, although their housing, education and medical care are provided by the government, along with a food ration book for about 1/2 of their food allotment. I gave the equivalent of $1 (more than a day's pay) to each person I photographed along with a small gift/candy/toy and I had LOTS of subjects!!
Due to the 50+ year old US/Cuban Embargo, it is still illegal for US citizens to travel to Cuba unless they are on one of the US State Department approved 'people to people' cultural trips which I was on. I loved it so much I am going back again in January, 2015.
Hope you enjoy a little taste of Cuba from these photos!!
