Yesterday I used a dark green to mark a quilt. Today I finished the quilt and washed it, and sure enough...it came out just fine.

So, such a simple and relatively inexpensive solution for this problem! I feel weird I didn't think of it before.
in my experience for some reason, yellow won't wash out well.
