You may be trying to quilt too fast. You may be using needles which are wrong for the machine or too lightweight for machine quilting. Machine quilting needles must be larger than piecing needles so they don't flex with the movements. Flexing causes bad stitches or broken needles. Have fun and hope you figure it all out.
