I'm a Rowenta gal as well. IMO it matters GREATLY what water you use. Some R's call for distilled water; some for tap water. Read the instructions. I've had both, used the directed water in both, and have never had a leakage issue. I subscribe to my grandmother's belief that a heavy iron does half the work for you. No hard pressing needed as the heavy iron does that job for you. And yes, always unplug your iron. Never know what gremlins may get near it, knock it over and turn on the switch!
