If my memory serves I used to cut part of the mounting bracket where the winder is adjusted on to allow for more travel with spoked handwheel. This screw can also be removed and finger pressure used to wind. I only did this on electric Singer 66, 99, 15-90 as they wouldn't sell unless I put an HC on.
