Yes, the flat of the presser bar does appear to be lined up with the needle, thanks Rodney!

I guess it was the online guides that were innacurate then.
I guess they are written for people who simply want to know whether to buy high or low shank feet rather than idiots like me trying to fit a square peg into a round hole!

Fortunately, no harm has been done. The slightly extended flat on the presser bar looks like it came from the factory, and will not affect the function of it at all.
The high shank to snap on adapter is fine apart from having an extra hole, so that's going back on the model 84.

The only part that is actually ruined is the zigzag foot, but I knew I was deliberately sacrificing it when I took a file to it.

I'm going to order a low shank to snap on adapter now.
