They are both good flavors, I like rum flavor better. I don't know what a Lane Cake is, but I often change the flavor in some of my cakes, especially if it's a pound type cake. Just remember, it is just flavoring, not alcohol. If it called for brandy, the liquor in the cake then it might make a difference. In Italian Rum cake, the cake is a sponge type cake and I've already used Amaretto to soak the cake instead of Rum. Guess I'll have to google Lane Cake. I'll get back to you.
