If it's thick, I sure wouldn't put it in the same place as the clear, liquid oil. Seen too many machines gummed-up with "grease" where oil should have been used. For example, you don't want to put anything greasy on the take-up area or bobbin winder clutch. That's just asking for a froze-up machine.
