But this shrinkage issue is ONE of the reasons I don't make quilts that serve as bedspreads, that *have* to end up a certain size. I make them "to be comfortable" enough on given bed, or sofa, and let them accessorize the bed on top of the bedspread. Much less stress on me.

Totally agree! I FINALLY finished piecing my Bonnie Hunter Celtic Solstice and purposely made the "small" verson (78x78) so that it lays on top of the cover on our bed. My DH has a habit of yanking the cover up(and over) during the night and has ruined a log cabin quilt but literally pulling the piecing apart (hand quilted), so I want this to be too short for him to grab overnight and yank (apart)!
