I got one too. My first generation iPad had gotten so old it would no longer update and kept falling off the internet. As far as I know you do not need anti virus software. I would call Apple and ask them your questions. As a new owner you get this service free for a certain amount of time. If you insure your new iPad, the service continues for as long as the insurance does. I love mine and read quilting blogs all the time.
