If I understand your house description, I grew up in a house like that. Do you have one wall which runs front to back and serves both the living room and dining room? If so, I echo someone else and think painting that one wall a contrasting color could be interesting. I'm thinking something that goes with the other walls but has more punch to it. You could pick up that same color with accessories too.
(I lived in that house in the 70's. We had multi colored daisy wallpaper in the kitchen and white/gold flocked wallpaper in the other rooms. Ugh.....)
Yes, the wall is like that.....the l. room and dining room run the length of it but there is a small parting between the 2 rooms. Now that there are only 2 of us, I use part of the dining room for a quilting space.
The seller said that the house was built in the late 80s...1989 I think.
Wall paper borders when we moved in but they are long gone. Still have the oak cupboards with the shiny finish, brass fixtures and a soffitt area above them with the railing running across the top of the cupboards. Thinking of new cabinets or at least an update but that is for a few years down the road.
