I made mine longer by just adding about 6 more rows. Since it was batik it was easy to "match" (actually "not match" since nothing else matched either). Just start like you did originally by cutting that first strip in two so that the color breaks in the row. But I found it easier to piece the long strip and then cut it to the length you need for each row and then sew it together row by row.
