My Bernina walking foot has a U-shaped metal part with a screw that holds the seam guide tightly. It doesn't move side to side at all, but can still be moved up and down when I need to rearrange the quilt. The guide on my Viking walking foot is held tight by the screw on the back of the shaft. There may very well be a screw that is meant to be tightened to hold yours, too.
