The good thing is you have some time. Not a lot but some. If you plan to make the sibling a quilt you could go ahead and start that. IMHO I would not do an intricate pattern but something quick and simple. Also you may want to suggest that she ask others to do some of the other things or you would be happy to teach her. Good luck.
