Just the plain Barbie doll are fairly cheap and it is better to fit a model. Yes the pieces are small but just cut the pieces with a little larger seam allowance. Knit fabrics work well too because they stretch to fit. for fasteners, a little piece of Velcro is all you need and I hand sew a button on top for show.
They are definately a labour of love and if you can find a church bazaar that has them, even better!
