Check the width of your stitch. Most machines have a twin needle button that limits the width to around 4mm. That avoids breaking needles since you can do twin needle embroidery with built in stitches.
If your standard stitch width is 6mm, 4mm would avoid a too wide swing of the needles.

You would buy the needles by use. Pintucks usually use smaller width needles.

You can twin needle pintuck on an old manual machine if you can find the foot. (Generic by shank)
Those machines would have to limit width of zigzag also.
